An Action Network petition is urging Florida officials to pause the rollout of autonomous vehicles, citing concerns about safety, regulation, and public oversight.
The petition calls for a moratorium on commercial driverless ride-hailing services and urges state leaders to pause further testing and deployment of autonomous vehicles until safety standards and labor protections are in place. It is addressed to Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Florida Department of Transportation, and transportation leaders in Orlando, Miami-Dade, and Tampa, according to the Action Network.
Safety concerns have also been raised in connection with recent autonomous vehicle activity in the state.
A Miami personal injury law firm reported that a Waymo vehicle stopped on the Venetian Causeway, leading to a traffic backup. The firm also noted that Waymo launched its ride-hailing service in Miami in January 2026, initially limited to early users on a waitlist with broader expansion planned later in the year.
A separate report from DiMarco Araujo Montevideo said 1,429 Waymo-related incidents were reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration between July 2021 and November 2025. The report said the incidents involved Waymo vehicles but were not necessarily caused by them, and also referenced recalls tied to software issues and collisions with stationary objects.
Action Network is an online platform used for petitions, events, fundraising, and advocacy campaigns. It provides tools for organizations and individuals to mobilize supporters around policy issues.
