Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrest of Logan Morrison, a former certified nursing assistant at Dayspring Senior Living in Hilliard, Florida. Morrison faces one count of Abuse of a Disabled Adult after allegedly grabbing and shoving a disabled resident to the ground.
“This act of violence against a vulnerable Floridian will not be tolerated,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “My office has zero tolerance for elder abuse. Rest assured, my office will throw the book at this offender and continue to protect those who cannot protect themselves.”
The incident reportedly occurred on April 15, 2024. According to investigators, Morrison was seen grabbing the neck of a disabled adult resident and pushing him off his bed onto the floor. Law enforcement reviewed Morrison’s employment file, which showed he had completed a two-hour orientation on resident rights prior to starting work at Dayspring Senior Living. The facility terminated Morrison after conducting its own internal investigation.
Morrison is charged with a third-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) in cooperation with the State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.
The Florida MFCU investigates and prosecutes Medicaid providers suspected of fraudulent billing practices and also handles cases involving patient abuse, neglect, or exploitation in facilities that receive Medicaid payments. The unit is funded through an annual grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Office of Inspector General, totaling $30,510,157 for Federal Fiscal Year 2025. Of this amount, 75 percent comes from federal funds while 25 percent is provided by Florida.
