Bradley R. McVay has been appointed as Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor, according to an announcement by Attorney General James Uthmeier. McVay’s legal background includes work in election integrity, civil litigation, and criminal prosecution.
“Brad is a proven constitutional conservative, experienced litigator, and criminal prosecutor who has defended Florida’s laws and elections in the courtroom and beyond,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “He understands the stakes and shares our commitment to law and order. I have full confidence he will lead the Office of Statewide Prosecution with strength and integrity.”
“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor,” said Statewide Prosecutor Brad McVay. “I very much appreciate the trust and confidence the Attorney General has placed in me. I promise to work around the clock on behalf of Florida to ensure justice is served.”
McVay previously served as Deputy Secretary of State for Legal Affairs and Election Integrity, where he managed legal strategy for the Department of State, oversaw the Office of Election Crimes and Security, and was General Counsel to multiple Secretaries of State during several election cycles. He also defended Florida’s election laws at both state and federal court levels, including before the U.S. Supreme Court.
His earlier experience includes positions at the Department of Management Services, private litigation practice, and serving as a criminal prosecutor in Florida’s Eighth Judicial Circuit. McVay is affiliated with organizations such as the Republican National Lawyers Association and the Federalist Society. Governor Ron DeSantis recently appointed him to the First District Court of Appeal Judiciary Nominating Commission.
McVay graduated cum laude from Florida State University College of Law. He has published research on state election law topics and regularly speaks at conferences related to election law and criminal justice.
Attorney General Uthmeier expressed appreciation for Deputy Statewide Prosecutor Julie Chaikin’s role during the selection process.
McVay is scheduled to be sworn in on August 18, 2025.
The Office of Statewide Prosecution operates under constitutional direction from the state attorney general to prosecute crimes that cross two or more judicial circuits within Florida. The office focuses on complex organized crime cases that span multiple jurisdictions within the state. The statewide prosecutor is appointed by the attorney general for a four-year term.
