Today in Tallahassee, Florida, Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the issuance of a subpoena to Roblox, an online gaming platform known for its numerous games and interactive environments. The subpoena demands information on how Roblox markets to children, manages age-verification, and moderates chat rooms.

“As a father and Attorney General, children’s safety and protection are a top priority,” stated Attorney General Uthmeier. “There are concerning reports that this gaming platform, which is popular among children, is exposing them to harmful content and bad actors. We are issuing a subpoena to Roblox to uncover how this platform is marketing to children and to see what policies they are implementing—if any—to avoid interactions with predators.”

Reports suggest that children accessing Roblox may encounter graphic or harmful materials, with predatory adults having potential access to message minors on the platform. The subpoena also requests documents on Roblox’s data collection and processing relating to children.

Roblox, with over 85 million daily users in 2024—about 40% of whom are under 13—offers both platform-developed and user-generated content. The Attorney General seeks a range of documents, including those showing the time children spend on the platform, marketing materials targeting children, and steps taken to prevent exposure to mature content.

Additional requested documents include communications related to abuse reports from Florida users, parental control circumvention, and chat and game moderation capabilities. The subpoena also seeks information on age verification processes and any criminal cases arising from children’s interaction on the platform.
