Wesley Todd, CEO of CaseGlide, a company specializing in legal technology solutions, said that legislators allowing the Plaintiff Industrial Complex to harm businesses like Uber fail to serve the majority of their constituents. Todd made this statement in an X post on January 21.

“Legislators that allow the Plaintiff Industrial Complex to destroy businesses like Uber fail to serve the 99% of their constituents who don’t profit off of Litigation,” said Todd. “We can all hope for a Judicial @DOGE, but if you don’t shine a light into the waste, fraud, and abuse in the Litigation Factory, you are the problem. In Florida, insurers and legislators led by @GovRonDeSantis rapidly pushed for transparency and achieved historic litigation reform a mere two years later. Leaders stepped up and solved the problem during the worst litigation crisis in history.”

According to a report by InsuranceJournal.com, Uber is investing millions in a national advertising campaign advocating for insurance reforms to combat exploitation by personal injury lawyers. The company argues that high state-mandated insurance limits increase ride prices and fuel excessive lawsuits. By pushing for legislative changes, Uber aims to lower these costs and reduce legal abuses. The company has joined political coalitions and launched advocacy efforts to influence policy changes across multiple states.

On February 4, Uber posted an update on its corporate commitments, highlighting how independent work became crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. With many workers facing layoffs or reduced hours, flexible earning opportunities allowed people to supplement their income amid economic uncertainty. Uber improved independent work by providing accessible, flexible earning options without traditional job constraints. The platform enables workers to set their own schedules and quickly find work, offering stability during uncertain times.

On February 5, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a press release announcing significant improvements in the state’s insurance market. Major auto insurers such as GEICO, Progressive, and State Farm have filed for rate reductions of 10.5%, 8.1%, and 6%, respectively. Citizens Property Insurance is also implementing statewide premium decreases averaging 5.6%, benefiting about 75% of homeowners in Miami-Dade County. Over the past two years, eleven new insurance companies have entered the Florida market, enhancing competition and market stability.

According to a February 18 post on InsuranceRateReporter.com, a survey by the American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) and Munich Re US found that plaintiff lawyer tactics like third-party litigation funding (TPLF) and jury anchoring are contributing to rising insurance costs with an estimated $529 billion impact on the U.S. economy. The survey shows that 69% of Americans believe these practices drive up premiums while 86% support legal reforms to address the issue. However, a significant portion of respondents remain unaware of these tactics; with 75% unfamiliar with jury anchoring and 70% not recognizing TPLF.

Todd has dedicated his career to helping claims organizations and law firms manage litigation more effectively. Before founding CaseGlide, he represented major insurance companies as an attorney at Cole, Scott & Kissane, P.A.
