Governor Ron DeSantis has released the proposed state budget for 2025-2026. The budget outlines several key initiatives and allocations, focusing on tax reductions, workforce education, environmental protection, and infrastructure improvements.

The proposal includes a $2.2 billion tax reduction package. A significant part of this package is aimed at eliminating the Florida-only business rent tax over the next two years. In addition, $766 million is allocated to support workforce education programs.

Environmental efforts receive substantial funding in this budget. The proposal allocates $1.5 billion toward protecting the Everglades and improving water quality. Transportation infrastructure also sees a notable investment with $13.8 billion earmarked for the State Transportation Work Program. This marks over a decade of spending more than $10 billion annually to enhance Florida’s infrastructure.

Affordable housing programs will receive full funding under this proposal, supporting both homeowner and rental assistance through SHIP and SAIL programs. The budget also designates $75 million for the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, which supports public infrastructure and workforce training projects.

VISIT Florida, the state’s tourism marketing entity, is set to receive $80 million under this budget plan. Additionally, behavioral health services are supported with an allocation of $151.4 million.

The release of Governor DeSantis’s recommended budget indicates that the legislative session is approaching. During this session, the legislature will undertake its budgeting process as it holds responsibility for appropriations. Passing an annual budget is constitutionally required of the legislature each year.
