The Florida Department of Health and the Department of Children and Families have introduced new resources aimed at supporting parents throughout pregnancy and early parenthood. The initiative, called Strong Florida Moms, is designed to offer guidance and support for women during pregnancy and as they transition into motherhood. Additionally, the Father First program has been expanded to provide information and resources specifically for fathers.
State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo stated, “Under the Governor and First Lady’s leadership, Florida is ensuring families statewide have the tools they need to ensure the best outcomes for pregnant women and their children, from pregnancy through the early years of life. Through the resources now provided by the Strong Florida Moms and Father First programs, Florida will continue to support the lives and well-being of Florida’s families, advancing our vision that all Floridians have the opportunity to lead long, healthy, and fulfilling lives.”
Secretary Shevaun Harris commented on the initiative: “In Florida, thanks to the leadership of Governor and First Lady DeSantis, we are ensuring that parents, especially expectant parents, have resources and information that are readily available. Through initiatives like Father First and Strong Florida Moms, we are empowering parents to thrive, building strong and resilient Florida families with confidence and support.”
Both programs aim to meet a range of needs for families in Florida by offering information on topics such as what to expect during pregnancy or after childbirth. Resources include guidance on child developmental milestones as well as access to free classes about breastfeeding, safe sleep practices for infants, car seat safety tips, health care provider contacts, community events across the state, and more.
