Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrests of Herbert Davis III, Michael McCray, and Tyrone Howard in connection with an organized retail theft operation. The arrests followed a joint investigation by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of Statewide Prosecution.
According to officials, the suspects were involved in burglaries at athletic footwear stores located at Jensen Beach Mall on October 21, 2025, a mall in Georgia on November 7, 2025, and Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach on November 17, 2025. Video footage reportedly shows the defendants climbing a ladder to access the roof and then entering through holes cut into the ceiling.
Authorities stated that more than $70,000 worth of sneakers was stolen during these incidents. The defendants are facing charges including burglary of a structure causing over $1,000 in damage, grand theft causing damage over $1,000, possession of burglary tools while masked, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
After the Jensen Beach Mall incident, two suspects allegedly attempted another burglary at a Daytona Beach store where they were apprehended by local police.
Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Chris Olowin is set to prosecute the case. If convicted on all charges, each defendant could face up to life imprisonment in the Florida Department of Corrections.
Attorney General Uthmeier recently launched the Retail Theft Special Investigative Task Force aimed at removing jurisdictional barriers for prosecutors handling similar cases.
“Florida law enforcement and our statewide prosecutors are taking the fight against retail theft to the next level,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “We will leverage all necessary tools to keep prices low for Floridians and create an environment that allows businesses to thrive.”
