The Florida Attorney General’s Office has successfully concluded litigation against a deceptive moving brokerage operation, securing over $4 million in judgments and imposing a lifetime industry ban on the individuals involved. The action targeted Charles Abrams, Rudolph Rice, and Daniel Metz, who ran a network of companies including Gold Standard Moving and Storage.
Attorney General James Uthmeier stated, “We will not tolerate shady moving operators scamming hardworking Floridians.” He credited Senior Assistant Attorney General Josie Warren, Deputy Director Sasha Funk Granai, and Assistant Attorney General Pooneh Charkhian-Martinez for their roles in achieving this outcome.
The defendants misrepresented themselves as professional movers offering door-to-door services but were actually online brokers providing low quotes to obtain upfront deposits. They outsourced work to unvetted carriers, leading to consumer complaints about additional payment demands. Despite promises of refunds and customer service during moves, these commitments were not fulfilled.
The entities involved included Executive Van Lines, Imperial Moving Group d/b/a Simple Path Moving, National American Van Lines, Razor Van Lines, Spartan Moving and Storage, United American Moving, Us Pro Moving and Logistics, along with Gold Standard Moving and Storage. These companies frequently changed names following negative reviews.
Attorney General Uthmeier’s actions resulted in five final consent judgments that permanently bar the defendants from participating in Florida’s moving broker industry. The total judgment amount is $4,139,239 with $1,120,239 allocated for consumer relief. Eligible consumers will be contacted regarding compensation.
