Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued criminal subpoenas to the online gaming platform Roblox. The action is part of an investigation into whether Roblox’s practices are enabling predators to access and harm children.

Attorney General Uthmeier stated, “Platforms like Roblox have become breeding grounds for predators to gain access to our kids. We will stop at nothing in the fight to protect Florida’s children, and companies that expose them to harm will be held accountable.”

Investigations have found that sexual predators have used Roblox to contact and groom minors. There are allegations that Roblox has not sufficiently verified users’ ages and that its content moderation has failed to block sexually explicit material from circulating on the platform. Some reports claim that predators have used the in-game currency, Robux, to bribe minors into sending explicit images.

Victims have accused Roblox of failing to implement adequate safety measures and not warning parents about risks, while maintaining publicly that the platform is safe for children. Additional reports allege that Roblox has not reported incidents of child victimization to authorities.

The subpoena issued by the Attorney General is available for public viewing.
