The Florida Bar Board of Governors is inviting applications for an attorney position on the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee. This committee, which consists of 12 members, provides between 20 and 25 written advisory opinions each year to judges and judicial candidates about how the Code of Judicial Conduct applies to specific situations involving both judicial and non-judicial conduct.

Committee members are appointed for four-year terms. The current vacancy will be filled at the Board of Governors’ meeting scheduled for March 13, 2026. The term for the new appointee will begin on July 1, 2026, and end on June 30, 2030.

Most committee business is conducted through email and phone conferences. In addition to providing advisory opinions, the committee organizes forums on judicial campaign conduct during election years. It also holds an annual in-person meeting at The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention, where attendance is strongly encouraged.

To be eligible, applicants must be members in good standing with The Florida Bar. Applications are being accepted until close of business on Monday, February 2, 2026. According to the announcement: “Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application.” All applications will be reviewed by the Board of Governors, who may request interviews by telephone or in person.

Those interested can download the Application for Special Appointment from The Florida Bar’s website or call Bar headquarters at 850-561-3127 to obtain a copy. Completed applications should be sent to the Executive Director at The Florida Bar’s address in Tallahassee or submitted via email.
