Florida is experiencing a surge in activity following the celebration of America’s 249th anniversary. Tourism is thriving as visitors flock to enjoy cruise vacations, and cargo activity across Florida’s seaports remains strong. Port Panama City is seeing robust copper imports, JAXPORT has become the first U.S. Southeast port of call after Premier Alliance’s service change, and the Port of Palm Beach reports record-breaking revenue and growth.
The new fiscal year began on July 1 with Governor Ron DeSantis signing the state budget into law. This includes a $120.7 million allocation for seaport projects and debt reserve payments. Additionally, funding was allocated for local transportation projects at PortMiami, Port of Fernandina, and Port Putnam.
Transportation modes in Florida are continuously improving to meet growing demands across sectors such as airports, seaports, spaceports, railroads, trucking, roads, and bridges.
Recently highlighted at Floridians for Better Transportation’s Summer Camp were discussions involving Bob Ledoux from Florida East Coast Railway, Tiffany Homler Hawkins from LYNX, and Rudy Powell from FDOT.
As America approaches its 250th anniversary of celebrating freedoms next year, there is confidence that Florida’s seaports will continue to contribute significantly to the state’s growth and strength.
