Time marks the start of autumn differently for various regions, according to Steve Johnson, Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission. While many areas in the north recognize fall by the changing color of leaves, in Florida, the season is signaled by the harvest of citrus fruits.

Johnson stated, “It’s one of my favorite times of year, and for a good reason. We’ve worked hard all year for it, and now, Florida Citrus is ripe for the picking.” He noted that this period brings both a productive spirit among growers and a sense of optimism within the industry.

The recent Florida Citrus Commission (FCC) meeting on October 22 reflected these sentiments. Johnson reported that all 11 commission members participated either in person or digitally. Industry partners also attended to present updates or contribute as committees from the Florida Department of Citrus shared recommendations with the commission.

Johnson reminded stakeholders that FCC meetings are not usually held in November. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the Bartow headquarters.

Steve Johnson serves as Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission, which oversees operations at the Florida Department of Citrus. He is also owner and general manager of Johnson Harvesting, Inc., located in Wauchula, Florida.
