The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has announced the return of the “Hurricane Awareness Machine” for the 2025 Daytona 500 NASCAR Cup Series. This initiative aims to emphasize hurricane preparedness among Floridians, using the high-profile racing event as a platform to spread awareness.

FDEM Executive Director Kevin Guthrie highlighted the importance of quick decision-making in both racing and storm preparation. “Just as racecar drivers need to make split-second decisions to stay ahead, Floridians must act quickly to prepare before a storm hits,” he stated. He emphasized that hurricane preparedness is an ongoing process and thanked Mike Boylan and FIRMAN Power Equipment for their support in promoting this message.

Mike Boylan, owner of Mike’s Weather Page, expressed his enthusiasm about participating in the event. “I’m so excited to have the Hurricane car back at Daytona with Firman and FDEM,” he said. He noted that bringing awareness to hurricane season through this event allows discussions about weather preparedness with thousands of people.

Jason Sutton, FIRMAN Power Equipment’s Director of Brand Development, shared similar sentiments regarding their partnership with FDEM and Mike’s Weather Page. “FIRMAN is excited to once again partner with the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Mike’s Weather Page for an unforgettable day of racing at Daytona,” he remarked. Sutton also mentioned their collaboration with NASCAR driver Patrick Emerling, who will drive the #7 Hurricane Awareness Machine.

The Hurricane Awareness Machine will compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series United Rentals 300 on February 15, 2025, at 5 p.m., with team SS Greenlight Racing. Before the race, FDEM team members will engage with attendees, offering advice on severe weather safety and preparation for the upcoming hurricane season.

Patrick Emerling will be driving the ‘Hurricane Awareness Machine,’ supported by sponsors such as Mike’s Weather Page, FIRMAN Power Equipment, and Lowes. For more information on disaster preparedness, individuals are encouraged to visit FloridaDisaster.org/PlanPrepare or follow FDEM on social media platforms.
