Florida is positioning itself as a significant player in international trade, leveraging its advanced deep-water port infrastructure and excellent connectivity via road, rail, and air. The state is recognized as a top maritime trade hub and hosts the world’s largest cruise ports. As Florida continues to experience unprecedented population growth, further expansion in trade activities is anticipated. However, this success has also attracted competition from neighboring states eager to replicate Florida’s achievements.

To maintain its leading position in this dynamic landscape, Florida ports have implemented the Seas the Opportunities strategy. This forward-looking approach involves strategic investments in port infrastructure improvements such as dock rehabilitation, expanding port capacity, and enhancing cargo container handling capabilities. Additionally, efforts are underway to strengthen connectivity and resilience against potential future supply chain disruptions.

The Seaport Mission Plan outlines key projects that underscore the critical role of Florida’s seaports as an international trade hub. It provides insights into how Florida’s 16 seaports performed during the fiscal year 2023-2024.

Florida’s seaports are essential for supplying critical commodities that support daily life, economic stability, and overall well-being through cargo and cruise activities.
