Members of the Florida House of Representatives Economic Infrastructure Subcommittee gathered today to explore the significant role seaports play in bolstering Florida’s economy. Port leaders from PortMiami, JAXPORT, and Port Tampa Bay presented a detailed overview at the request of Subcommittee Chair Representative Chip LaMarca.

The presentation highlighted that “feeding, fueling and healing Floridians is a top priority for Florida’s ports,” with maritime activity contributing 12.2 percent to the state’s $1.6 trillion GDP. As Florida’s population grows, investments in seaport infrastructure are crucial for maintaining an efficient supply chain and minimizing disruptions.

Acknowledgment was given to port leaders who testified before the committee: Hydi Webb from PortMiami, Raul Alfonso from Port Tampa Bay, and Nick Primrose from JAXPORT. Additionally, a presentation on Port Panama City was included.

In early March, port leaders will attend TPM25, a major maritime trade convention aimed at connecting Florida’s ports with the cargo industry to secure more trade routes through the state. This event will be followed by meetings of the Florida Ports Council and Florida Seaport Transportation and Economic Development Board of Directors in late March.

As February concludes, gratitude was expressed to those who participated in American Heart Month for raising awareness about heart disease.

“Thank you for everything you do to help keep Florida’s ports strong.”
