The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and the National Hurricane Center have issued a checklist to help residents prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. The guidance includes checking evacuation zones and determining if homes are in flood-prone or storm surge areas, which can be found at FloridaDisaster.org/Know.

Residents are advised to assess whether their homes meet current wind resistance and flood safety standards. Preparations should also include planning for at least seven days without power or water. A complete Disaster Supply Kit Checklist is available at FloridaDisaster.org.

Property owners may qualify for mitigation inspections and retrofitting assistance through programs such as My Safe Florida Home. Additionally, from June 1 to June 14, many hurricane supplies, including generators, tarps, flashlights, and coolers, will be tax-free. A list of eligible items can be found at FloridaRevenue.com/DisasterPrep.

“As Florida’s Realtors, we serve every corner of the state – and we know how crucial it is to plan ahead,” said Weisheyer. “We urge all Floridians to take hurricane season seriously and act now to protect your property and your loved ones.”

Further information and downloadable hurricane preparedness resources are available on the FloridaDisaster.org website and the Florida Realtors Hurricane Resources page.
