Leaders from Florida’s 16 seaports have returned to the state after participating in a four-day series of meetings with members of Florida’s Congressional Delegation. The meetings were part of the DC Fly-In initiative.
Florida’s ports play a crucial role in the state’s economy, contributing $196 billion and supporting 1.2 million jobs. This accounts for 12.2 percent of Florida’s $1.6 trillion GDP. These figures underscore Florida’s significant position in the global supply chain, prompting continued investments to enhance capacity and maintain competitiveness.
The port leaders expressed gratitude for the engagement and commitment shown by congressional members toward keeping Florida’s seaports competitive. Representatives from Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Port Panama City, and Port St. Lucie attended the meetings, alongside leaders from JAXPORT, SeaPort Manatee, Port Tampa Bay, and PortMiami.
The efforts of the Florida Ports Caucus and Rep. Frederica Wilson were also acknowledged for their role in uniting support for ports as vital economic drivers.
In state news, lawmakers have extended the 2025 Legislative Session to finalize the fiscal year budget. The Senate will extend until June 6, while the House will continue through June. There is optimism that budget allocations will support Florida’s supply chain effectively.
