Florida’s seaports are undergoing significant improvement projects aimed at supporting economic growth and increasing competitiveness. According to the Florida Ports Council, maintaining efficient and modern infrastructure is essential for meeting the state’s growing shipping and cruise passenger demands.

“Ensuring that our ports remain competitive through efficient and modern infrastructure that is prepared to meet growth and diversification expectations, while also supporting record-breaking cruise passenger growth, is essential,” a statement from the organization said.

The council credited support from executive and legislative partners in helping ports address industry needs and invest in capital improvements across the state. “Thanks to the support of our executive and legislative branch partners, Florida’s seaports are meeting shipping industry demands, while also making capital project improvements to ensure our ports remain strong and prepared for continued growth.”

Major port improvement initiatives are currently underway throughout Florida. In addition to ongoing construction, leaders from various ports will soon convene at the Florida Ports Council Annual Meeting to discuss strategies for advancing seaport transportation economic development.

Industry representatives plan to promote Florida’s international trade interests at upcoming maritime networking events. The council highlighted robust activity not only in cargo operations but also in cruise traffic.

“Just as seaport activity continues to bustle on the cargo side of the industry, the same is also true for cruising in Florida. On behalf of the Florida Ports Council, I’m happy to welcome the world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas, to the great state of Florida.”

The council anticipates further discussions during meetings scheduled in Longboat Key.
