The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is urging residents to begin preparations for the upcoming 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which starts on June 1 and ends on November 30. The historical peak occurs in September. Kevin Guthrie, Executive Director of FDEM, emphasized the importance of early preparation, stating, “As we count down to the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, I strongly encourage all Floridians to take the necessary steps to prepare now.” He advised stocking up on emergency supplies, securing homes, and reviewing family disaster plans.

FDEM has provided several preparedness tips for Floridians. Creating a household disaster plan that includes all family members is essential. Residents should be aware of their evacuation zones and whether their homes are in flood-prone areas. It’s also crucial to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and follow local officials’ orders during emergencies.

To fortify homes against storm damage, residents are encouraged to assess any necessary repairs or improvements such as hurricane windows or gutters. Maintaining a well-stocked disaster supply kit with food, water, and medicine for at least seven days is recommended.

For further guidance on hurricane preparedness, residents can visit FloridaDisaster.org/PlanPrepare and follow FDEM’s social media channels for updates.
