In 2024, Florida experienced a slight decrease in U-Haul arrivals and departures compared to the previous year, with arrivals dropping by 1% and departures decreasing by 0.5%. This decline moved Florida down two spots on U-Haul’s growth list, but it still achieved the fourth-largest net gain of U-Haul movers in the United States.
The U-Haul Growth Index evaluates states based on their net gain or loss of one-way equipment from customer transactions within a calendar year. The index is derived from over 2.5 million one-way truck, trailer, and U-Box portable moving container transactions across the United States and Canada.
Florida’s cities leading in growth, listed alphabetically rather than ranked, include Bradenton, Brandon, Clermont, Davenport, Daytona Beach, Fernandina Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Haines City, Kissimmee, Lakeland, Melbourne, Neptune Beach, North Fort Myers, North Port, Ocala, Palm Bay, Panama City, Port St. Lucie, Sarasota, St. Cloud and Titusville.
According to the 2024 U-Haul Growth chart’s top five fastest-growing states—ranked first through fifth—are South Carolina, Texas, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee.
While U-Haul rankings may not directly indicate population or economic growth rates specifically for these areas; however they do provide an insight into how effectively states and cities are attracting new residents while maintaining current ones.
