In a significant development for Florida Rising, one of the state’s largest independent political organizations, Victricia Simmons has been appointed as the new Executive Director. This appointment marks a pivotal moment in the organization’s leadership and strategic direction.

Victricia Simmons expressed her commitment to her new role, stating, “I am honored to step into this role at such a critical moment in history for our communities and our movement.” She emphasized her dedication to building a future rooted in justice and opportunity.

Simmons’ association with Florida Rising began in 2013 when she joined what was then known as New Florida Majority. Over the years, she has held various roles including Human Resources Manager, Campaign Manager, Acting Executive Director, and Chief of Staff. Her tenure has been marked by significant contributions to the organization’s internal systems and strategic outreach efforts.

Maria Rodriguez, Board Chair of Florida Rising, praised Simmons’ leadership qualities: “Victricia’s solid, capable, and determined leadership is exactly the steady helm we need in these turbulent times.” Rodriguez highlighted Simmons’ integral role over the past twelve years in amplifying political power across diverse communities in Florida.

Florida Rising’s achievements include successful campaigns on utility rates reduction and affordable housing policies. The organization also played a key role in turning Osceola and Pinellas counties blue for the first time in over a decade.

Alphonso Mayfield, another Board Chair, commented on Simmons’ leadership capabilities: “Her strategic vision, operational excellence, and deep connection to the community will carry Florida Rising to even greater heights.”

Under Simmons’ guidance, Florida Rising plans to continue its focus on transformative campaigns related to voting rights, affordable housing, reproductive freedom, environmental justice, and economic equity.
