The Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs recently shared that their Hope Florida: A Pathway for Patriots initiative has served over 1,000 veterans and their families since its launch in late 2023. The program, initiated by First Lady Casey DeSantis, employs Hope Navigators to assist Floridians in achieving economic self-sufficiency and prosperity. By collaborating with private sector, faith-based groups, nonprofit organizations, and government bodies, the initiative seeks to dismantle traditional barriers within communities, enhancing support and opportunities.

Since its founding in 2021, Hope Florida has witnessed significant achievements. Over 150 Hope Navigators have been deployed across the state, more than 115,000 Floridians have been directed to assistance, and around 5,600 community partners, including 2,000 faith-based organizations, have been established. Additionally, 30,000 Floridians have been able to decrease or eliminate their dependency on public assistance.

FDVA Hope Florida Director Holly Bernardo expressed pride in the initiative’s impact, stating, “Our team of Hope Navigators is incredibly honored to have made a meaningful impact on the lives of more than 1,000 Veterans and their families.” She emphasized the program’s role in giving veterans the support needed to build stable futures.

U.S. Air Force veteran Christopher Serville is one example of the program’s influence. Having served for 16 years, Serville credits the Hope Navigator from the program with providing the freedom and support his family required. “Through the Hope Navigator from the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs Hope Florida program, my family was given the freedom and hope we desperately needed,” he shared. The program helped him avoid homelessness and led to the establishment of a community garden through his church. His story is one of many, suggesting the program’s capacity to change lives positively.
