The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission has announced it is seeking qualified applicants to fill a vacancy on the Florida Supreme Court. The opening comes after the resignation of Justice Charles Canady.

According to the commission, any applicant must be a resident of Florida’s Second Appellate District at the time of appointment due to the current composition of the court.

Those interested in applying can find the judicial application on the Governor’s Judicial Nominations website. Applicants are required to submit both an original electronic copy and a redacted electronic copy of their application, each in PDF text-searchable format. The redacted version should exclude any material that is exempt or confidential under public records laws. Both versions must be sent electronically to all members of the commission by 5 p.m. on December 17, 2025.

Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted with details about date, time, and location. The commission expects to notify those chosen for interviews on December 19, 2025, with interviews anticipated to take place on December 29, 2025, in Tampa.

The current members of the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission are Chairman Jesse Panuccio (Palm Beach Gardens), Vice Chairman Heather Stearns (Tallahassee), Charbel Barakat (Tampa), Tim Cerio (Tallahassee), Jason Gonzalez (Tallahassee), Fred Karlinsky (Weston), Harout Samra (Coral Gables), and Jeanne T.
