Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution has successfully secured a guilty verdict against Oscar Gomez Guerra, the leader of a theft ring operating in Florida. Guerra was convicted on charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property. The operation involved Cuban nationals who stole trailers, RVs, boats, campers, and other large vehicles, leading to losses exceeding $550,000.

“This criminal alien took advantage of Floridians and our nation, and his behavior earned him some time with the Florida Department of Corrections,” stated Attorney General James Uthmeier. He added that thanks to law enforcement efforts and Assistant Statewide Prosecutors Ryan Shaw and Ben Grueschow, a conviction and final deportation order were achieved for Guerra.

The investigation revealed that Guerra led a Miami-based group that traveled upstate using rental cars to commit at least 10 thefts in the Ocala area. In one instance, they stole a travel trailer from an 80-year-old victim which was later sold in Flagler County.

Guerra was found guilty by a jury on one count of grand theft over $20,000 and one count of dealing in stolen property. Both charges are second-degree felonies. He faces up to 60 years in prison before deportation.
