FloridaCommerce announced on Apr. 2 that funding is now available through the Community Planning and Technical Assistance (CPTA) grant program. The program offers financial support to eligible communities, including Rural Areas of Opportunity, municipalities, counties, and Regional Planning Councils to address economic development, resiliency strategies, and local planning issues. Applications are due by May 1.

The CPTA grant program is intended to help communities develop innovative solutions for local challenges related to growth and resilience. The availability of these funds is significant as it supports both rural and metropolitan areas in Florida seeking resources for planning projects.

In November 2025, FloridaCommerce awarded more than $1.5 million for community planning projects through the CPTA grant program. Since 2019, over $9.1 million has been distributed to more than 110 Florida communities—90 of which are in rural areas.

Florida Department of Commerce provides financial support through loans and grants to small businesses and targeted industries, according to the official website. The department works statewide to foster economic opportunities that benefit both communities and individuals according to its official website.

Additionally, the agency aims to drive Florida’s economy by partnering with public and private entities focused on economic development and workforce support according to its official website. Its efforts include supporting economic initiatives throughout both rural regions and cities across the state according to its official website.

Florida Department of Commerce functions as the state’s primary agency for economic development under gubernatorial oversight according to its official website. For more information about eligibility requirements or how to apply for a CPTA grant, visit www.FloridaJobs.org/CPTA.
