FloridaCommerce announced the allocation of $2 million for community rehabilitation projects in three Florida areas via the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. This initiative aims to assist low- to moderate-income residents, address urgent community needs, and promote sustainable development.

“Under Governor DeSantis’ strong leadership, Florida continues to support infrastructure investments in small cities and rural communities,” stated Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “These awards will help Baldwin, Lee, and Washington County make critical infrastructure improvements — encouraging business growth, economic revitalization, and resiliency.”

The following communities received funding through the CDBG grant program:

– Town of Baldwin, Duval County, received $650,000 to replace approximately 300 existing water meters with Automatic Meter Read (AMR) systems, install two data collectors, and provide training and support.

– Town of Lee, Madison County, received $600,000 to rehabilitate the town’s elevated water tank. The project also includes installing 850 linear feet of 6-inch water mains with fire hydrants.

– Washington County received $750,000 to resurface Brown Street from South Boulevard to East Jackson Avenue and install updated signage. It also completes improvements at Campbell Park, including updated and more accessible handicap parking, new playground equipment, and lighting improvements for park safety.

These awards add to the $8 million awarded earlier in 2025 and a total of over $100 million allocated to more than 120 Florida communities since 2019, providing essential resources to municipalities and counties across the state.

The current application cycle for the Federal Fiscal Year 2023-2024 is open and will close on May 2, 2025. Interested parties can find the application and instructions on the Small Cities CDBG webpage. A technical assistance webinar was hosted by FloridaCommerce on February 28, 2025.
