FloridaCommerce has introduced a new Broadband Grant Registration Portal to facilitate the application process for upcoming broadband grant programs. This initiative aims to connect Florida’s small cities and rural communities to broadband internet, creating opportunities for job seekers and job creators through workforce and infrastructure investments.

Since 2020, FloridaCommerce has been involved in programs targeting unserved and underserved businesses, homes, farms, and community anchor institutions to provide high-speed internet access. Notably, 85% of broadband infrastructure grants have been awarded to small cities and rural communities in Florida. These grants are designed to ensure reliable internet access across the state, supporting workforce development, education, and health monitoring.

The newly launched Broadband Grant Registration Portal serves as a preliminary step before the opening of the Broadband Application Portal. Eligible applicants will preregister in this portal to receive credentials necessary for the application process. This preregistration is intended to confirm eligibility before application cycles commence.

In April, FloridaCommerce initiated a significant effort to develop the workforce required for upgrading the state’s communications networks. Collaborating with CareerSource Florida, the REACH Office, the Florida Department of Education, state and technical colleges, Local Workforce Development Boards, among others, they aim to attract and train individuals needed for expanding broadband internet access throughout Florida.

The Office of Broadband at FloridaCommerce is preparing to open grant applications for several programs: BEAD Deployment program, BEAD Workforce grant program, and Digital Capacity Grant program. These initiatives will fund projects related to broadband infrastructure development, workforce training opportunities, cybersecurity measures, and digital literacy efforts particularly in small cities and rural areas within Florida.

For more information on upcoming broadband grant opportunities or inquiries about the registration process, interested parties can contact the Office of Broadband via email at Broadband@Commerce.fl.gov or visit their website at www.FloridaJobs.org/Broadband.
