Floridians for Lawsuit Reform announced on X that it highlighted the arrest of a Sarasota man accused of operating a multi-county construction fraud scheme. The scheme allegedly defrauded at least 13 victims across seven Florida counties of more than $3 million intended for home repairs.

According to Floridians for Lawsuit Reform, the Sarasota man posed as a licensed contractor and took advance payments from homeowners seeking repairs across seven Florida counties. He then abandoned the projects and disappeared, leaving at least 13 families with unfinished or barely started homes, often in the aftermath of hurricanes and during ongoing recovery efforts. The investigation involved state, local, and federal authorities and highlights the growing concern over contractor fraud in Florida’s construction sector.

Business Observer reports that the suspect defrauded victims of more than $3 million by promising home repairs that were never completed or, in many cases, never started at all. Officials found that his fraudulent activities spanned multiple counties and involved elaborate schemes to gain the trust of homeowners. Victims were left without recourse and often had to seek additional financial help to restart or finish their repair projects.

According to News4Jax, law enforcement uncovered nearly 70 firearms and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition during a search of the suspect’s home, despite his status as a convicted felon. These weapons were found alongside evidence of the fraud, adding a significant layer to the investigation and leading to additional felony charges for illegal firearms possession. Authorities said that the magnitude of the weapons cache raised public safety concerns in addition to the financial crimes already alleged.

Floridians for Lawsuit Reform is dedicated to protecting Florida consumers from legal and contractor fraud by promoting reforms, educating the public, and advocating for accountability in the state’s legal system. Their outreach efforts include encouraging homeowners to verify contractor licenses through official state resources such as MyFloridaLicense.com before beginning home repairs. The group’s mission centers on reducing risk and fraud for Floridians and ensuring a more transparent, accountable marketplace.
