FloridaCommerce has reported a notable increase in employment figures for the Fort Lauderdale metro area. In April 2025, the region saw an addition of 5,800 private sector jobs, marking a 0.7% rise over the year. The labor force also grew by 3,550, which is a 0.3% increase from the previous year. The trade, transportation, and utilities sectors were particularly strong contributors to this growth, adding 2,300 jobs.

The unemployment rate in Fort Lauderdale was recorded at 3.2% in April 2025, reflecting a slight increase from the previous year’s rate of 2.8%.

Statewide, Florida’s private sector employment rose by 21,800 jobs from March to April 2025. This development supports Florida’s $1.7 trillion economy and its ranking as the top economy in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for two consecutive years.

Since May 2020, Florida employers have consistently added jobs in most months, with a total of 125,700 new private sector positions created over the past year up to April 2025. Florida’s unemployment rate has remained below the national average since November 2020.

In terms of industry performance statewide for April 2025, education and health services led job growth with an addition of 8,000 positions followed by professional and business services which added another 7,400 jobs.
