The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) announced on Feb. 27 its support for the “War on Fraud” initiative, which was introduced by President Trump during his State of the Union address and has seen immediate steps taken by Vice President Vance to address waste, fraud, and abuse in welfare programs.
The announcement comes as federal officials take significant measures to combat fraudulent activities within government assistance programs. The FGA said these actions are important to protect resources intended for those truly in need and to restore accountability in government operations.
As part of the new initiative, Vice President Vance, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz have withheld $259.5 million in Medicaid funding from Minnesota due to ongoing concerns about fraud. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has been given 60 days to submit a corrective plan or face further withholdings.
Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA, said, “If the Left thought for a moment that there was ever going to be a return to business as usual in federal welfare programs, President Trump’s State of the Union address this week shattered that idea, as well as any illusion that the fraud would be allowed to continue.” Bragdon continued, “For years, fraudsters and foreign special interests have gotten away with siphoning away hard-earned tax dollars that were meant to serve the truly needy and have gotten rich on the suffering of others. Instead of backing down, President Trump is doubling down, declaring that a ‘War on Fraud’ is essential for our country’s future prosperity.”
Bragdon also said, “By leveraging new technology with existing data and giving states some tough love to get their welfare programs under control, the Trump administration is doing the right thing and the popular thing by putting America first and fraudsters on notice.”
FGA has stated it will continue supporting efforts aimed at restoring accountability in government and reducing improper payments within welfare systems. The organization encourages interested parties to learn more about program integrity through its research available online.
