The Foundation for Florida’s Future has released a statement in response to the Florida State Board of Education’s decision to appoint Anastasios Kamoutsas as the Interim Commissioner of Education. The foundation expressed its support for Kamoutsas, acknowledging their past collaboration on educational policies.

“We congratulate Anastasios Kamoutsas on his selection by the State Board of Education to serve as the next Commissioner of Education,” the statement read. The foundation highlighted its previous work with Kamoutsas, particularly in opposing efforts to weaken literacy, accountability, and school choice policies. They also noted their joint effort in passing universal school choice legislation in 2023.

In addition to welcoming Kamoutsas, the foundation extended congratulations to outgoing Commissioner Manny Diaz for his contributions. “We additionally congratulate outgoing Commissioner Manny Diaz on his service to our state as Education Commissioner,” they stated. Under Diaz’s leadership, Florida maintained its status as a leader in school choice initiatives. The foundation looks forward to Diaz’s continued service as he assumes the role of Interim President at the University of West Florida.

The Foundation for Florida’s Future reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for student-centered policies both within the legislature and alongside the Department of Education. Their focus remains on enhancing literacy efforts, expanding math education, and maintaining accountability within the educational system.
