The Fourth District Judicial Nominating Commission announced on May 14 that it is accepting applications to fill two vacancies on the Fourth District Court of Appeal. The positions became available following the retirements of Judge Burton C. Conner and Judge Robert M. Gross.

The call for applications is important as it opens the process for selecting new judges who will serve in a key appellate court in Florida. Applicants must meet the qualifications outlined in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution.

Interested candidates are required to use the current Judicial Application form, which can be downloaded from Governor Ron DeSantis’ website. Two versions of each application—one unredacted and one redacted—must be submitted by email no later than 10 a.m. on May 29. Applications should include a recent photograph and not exceed eight megabytes in size. After submission, applicants will receive an email acknowledging receipt; those who do not receive confirmation are instructed to contact Greg Schwinghammer at 561-650-0595.

The commission tentatively plans to conduct interviews on June 19, with all interviews held in person rather than by phone or video conference. All proceedings except deliberations are open to the public, and applications will not be kept confidential if an applicant is nominated.

Members of the bench, Bar, and public are encouraged to provide input regarding applicants for these judicial positions. Further details about interview dates and applicant names will be released by the commission at a later date.
