Fwc moves to update lane snapper rules for gulf state waters

At its August meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved proposed rule changes for lane snapper in Florida’s Gulf state waters. The goal is to align state regulations with current and pending federal guidelines.

The proposal includes increasing the minimum size limit for both commercial and recreational catches from 8 inches to 10 inches total length. It also introduces a new recreational bag limit of 20 fish per person.

According to FWC, these adjustments are designed to reduce the risk of overfishing, help prevent early season closures, and improve consistency between regulations in Gulf state and federal waters.
