Governor Ron DeSantis has made several new appointments and reappointments to the Florida Citrus Commission, ensuring a full panel for the upcoming meeting on May 21. The recent changes have been met with enthusiasm by industry leaders. FDOC Executive Director Shepp expressed excitement about working with a diverse group of appointees, stating they are “thrilled with these new appointments and look forward to working with this well-rounded representation of Florida citrus growers, packers, and processors.”

The newly appointed members include Emma Ezell, Sean Frielich, Vernon Hollingsworth III (a former member), Daniel Hunt, and Melanie Ressler. Reappointed members are Chairman Steve Johnson, Carlos Martinez, William Poulton, Daniel Sutton, and John “Patrick” Schirard. Commissioner Paul Meador will continue representing District 1 until his term ends on May 31 or until a decision is made regarding his reappointment.

Chairman Johnson emphasized the dedication of each commissioner to the industry’s long-term success and sustainable solutions against challenges like citrus greening. He noted that commissioners represent various stakeholders in the citrus industry and work alongside the FCC and FDOC to benefit both the industry and consumers globally.

Johnson also acknowledged outgoing commissioners John Smoak, Chris Groom, and Marty McKenna for their contributions during challenging times for the citrus sector. Former Chairman McKenna highlighted his appreciation for the people within the industry who share a common work ethic despite diverse backgrounds.

Steve Johnson leads the Florida Citrus Commission as its chairman while managing Johnson Harvesting Inc., based in Wauchula, FL.
