The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has expressed support for the House Ways and Means Committee’s recent efforts to advance a legislative package known as the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” This bill aims to extend middle-class tax relief, provide additional support for working families, expand educational opportunities, and build on policies from the Trump administration that are intended to benefit American taxpayers.

Key components of the bill include extending tax cuts from 2017, maintaining higher standard deductions and changes to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), which are designed to keep taxes lower for working families and small businesses. The legislation also proposes allowing employers to contribute towards employees’ health insurance through an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA), offering more choices in health plans.

Additionally, the bill seeks to broaden the use of 529 education savings accounts beyond college expenses, potentially increasing their value for American families. It also aims to tighten rules around the Child Tax Credit by strengthening Social Security number requirements to ensure eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens and legal residents.

Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA, commented on these developments: “During President Trump’s first term the economy was roaring, people were optimistic, and the American Dream was alive and well. After four years of disastrous leadership from the Biden administration, the American people voted like never before to demand a return to the Trump Economy.” He added that extending and expanding these tax cuts would help overcome challenges posed by previous Democratic leadership.

The Foundation for Government Accountability is a non-profit think tank focused on promoting public policy solutions aimed at providing opportunities for Americans. More information can be found at TheFGA.org.
