Jordan Schachtel, an independent journalist and publisher of The Dossier on Substack, said that polling indicates Governor Ron DeSantis has overwhelming support, providing a clear mandate on issues like tort reform. However, Speaker Daniel Perez continues to obstruct on behalf of lobbyists, particularly the trial bar.

“New FL Chamber survey shows Gov DeSantis has 85% approval w/ GOP voters & very strong 55% with independents/3rd party. Comes after another recent poll showed 89% GOP approval,” said Schachtel, Publisher of ‘The Dossier’. “A clear mandate to lead. Time for the House to listen to the people, not special interests+lobbyists. Despite these soaring approval numbers, Speaker @Daniel_PerezFL has made it his mission to thwart the gov’s proposals, playing politics with the future of Floridians. He’s the worst speaker we’ve ever had, and increasingly finds himself losing allies in his kamikaze mission.”

According to a new Florida Chamber of Commerce poll, Governor Ron DeSantis holds a 54% approval rating while President Donald Trump stands at 51%. Nearly half of Floridians believe the state is headed in the right direction. The poll also reveals strong public support for the state’s 2023 tort reform laws. Conducted by Cherry Communications from May 2–10, it surveyed 605 likely voters with a margin of error of four percentage points. These results highlight continued voter alignment with DeSantis’ reform agenda.

In a press release, Florida Justice Reform Institute President William Large said attempts by trial lawyers to roll back Governor DeSantis’ tort reforms were politically motivated efforts to discourage other states from adopting similar measures. The Florida Senate rejected legislation sponsored by trial lawyers to reverse the 2023 legal reforms. DeSantis had vowed to veto any legislation undermining these reforms, credited with stabilizing Florida’s insurance market. Insurance Commissioner Michael Yaworsky warned that proposed changes would encourage excessive litigation.

On February 5, Governor DeSantis announced significant improvements in Florida’s insurance market. Major auto insurers such as GEICO, Progressive, and State Farm have filed for rate reductions. Citizens Property Insurance is implementing premium decreases benefiting homeowners in Miami-Dade County. Over two years, 11 new insurance companies have entered the Florida market.

Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky highlighted achievements by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) in a January 8 press release. Yaworsky said that thanks to reforms championed by Governor DeSantis, Florida’s insurance industry is improving. Reforms aimed at protecting consumers and improving market conditions have delivered tangible results.
