Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) has announced that its Secretary, Isis Fernandez, has been chosen by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a future leader in long term and post-acute care. Fernandez, who is the administrator at Hialeah Shores Rehabilitation Center, joins 38 other individuals nationwide in AHCA/NCAL’s Future Leaders program. This initiative provides participants with a year-long training and mentorship opportunity.

Emmett Reed, FHCA CEO, stated, “This recognition is a testament to Isis’s passion for long term care and dedication to developing future leaders in the profession.” He added that Fernandez would contribute exceptional insight to the program based on her career experiences and service to FHCA.

With over 30 years of experience in long term care, Fernandez holds credentials as both a Registered Nurse and a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She teaches as an adjunct professor at Med College and Galen College of Nursing. Additionally, she is involved with Dade County Public School System as an instructor for the Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician program at Hialeah Adult Education Center. Her aim is to inspire nursing students through her enthusiasm for long term care.

Fernandez’s active role within FHCA includes being a member of the Executive Committee and serving as Secretary of the Board of Directors. Her past roles have included Region I Vice President and District I President positions within FHCA. She is also an alumna of FHCA’s Florida Leaders program.

The AHCA/NCAL Future Leaders program highlights Fernandez’s leadership skills through training focused on quality management, customer satisfaction, and leadership theories. The program begins with the “Future Leaders of Long-Term Care in America” Symposium held annually in Washington, D.C.
