FloridaCommerce has reported a notable increase in private sector employment within the Jacksonville metro area, with 9,700 jobs added over the year as of January 2025. The education and health services sector led this growth by contributing 4,500 new positions.

The region’s labor force also expanded by 13,619 individuals, marking a 1.6% rise compared to the previous year. However, the unemployment rate increased slightly to 3.8%, up from 3.4% in January 2024.

Governor Ron DeSantis highlighted Florida’s robust economic performance, noting that the state’s labor force surpassed 11.1 million in January 2025. Manufacturing jobs reached a total of 430,800 during this period.

Revised figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reveal that Florida’s labor force was underestimated by approximately 162,000 workers previously. The updated data confirms consistent or stable growth in Florida’s labor force over ten of the past twelve months.

Statewide job additions totaled 113,600 over the year with a growth rate of 1.3%, surpassing the national average of 1.2%. Since May 2020, Florida employers have increased their workforce in most months.

The education and health services sector saw an additional monthly gain of 7,200 jobs (+0.5%), followed closely by leisure and hospitality with an increase of 6,100 jobs (+0.5%).
