JAXPORT completes first phase of Blount Island vehicle berth expansion

Contractors have completed the expansion of Vehicle Berth 22 at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s (JAXPORT) Blount Island Marine Terminal. This marks the completion of the first phase in a $60 million project aimed at enhancing efficiency and handling capacity for vehicle vessels.

The expansion allows Berth 22 to now accommodate larger vessels, up to approximately 750 feet in length overall. A new vehicle berth is also under construction at Blount Island, with completion expected in early 2027 after a projected 24-month construction period.

Eric Green, CEO of JAXPORT, stated, “Maintaining congestion-free vessel facilities as cargo volumes grow is an important part of our short and long-term planning processes.” He added that these upgrades will enable JAXPORT to serve auto customers more efficiently and provide additional capacity for future growth, reinforcing its position as a leading vehicle-handling port.

The Florida Department of Transportation funded 75 percent of the project, with JAXPORT providing a 25 percent match.
