Contractors have completed the expansion of Vehicle Berth 22 at the Jacksonville Port Authority’s (JAXPORT) Blount Island Marine Terminal. This marks the completion of the first phase in a $60 million project aimed at enhancing efficiency and handling capacity for vehicle vessels.

The expansion allows Berth 22 to now accommodate larger vessels, up to approximately 750 feet in length overall. A new vehicle berth is also under construction at Blount Island, with completion expected in early 2027 after a projected 24-month construction period.

Eric Green, CEO of JAXPORT, stated, “Maintaining congestion-free vessel facilities as cargo volumes grow is an important part of our short and long-term planning processes.” He added that these upgrades will enable JAXPORT to serve auto customers more efficiently and provide additional capacity for future growth, reinforcing its position as a leading vehicle-handling port.

The Florida Department of Transportation funded 75 percent of the project, with JAXPORT providing a 25 percent match.
