The James Madison Institute (JMI) has released a new policy brief titled “Bringing Government into the 21st Century: Artificial Intelligence and State Government Operations.” The document outlines potential uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in state government operations and offers policy recommendations aimed at modernizing these operations to deliver improved services.
Dr. Edward Longe, Director of the Center for Technology & Innovation at JMI, commented on the release: “Artificial Intelligence has the power to streamline state government operations, not just here in Florida, but across the country. In releasing this policy brief, JMI hopes to illuminate the ways emerging technologies can make government work better for citizens in the coming years. We also hope to show why state lawmakers should be embracing these technologies and not rejecting them.”
Despite acknowledging the benefits of AI for streamlining government work, JMI expressed concerns about what it describes as a “hostile regulatory regime” established by the Biden administration and state governments. According to JMI, such regulations could stifle innovation and prevent full realization of AI’s benefits.
