State lawmakers in Kentucky have taken significant steps to enhance government transparency and accountability with the passage and veto override of the REINS Act. The legislation, led by State Representative Wade Williams and Senator Matt Nunn, aims to shift lawmaking authority back to elected officials and away from unelected bureaucrats.

The REINS Act was passed despite the Governor’s veto, with an 80-20 vote in the House and a 31-7 vote in the Senate. This move places Kentucky alongside 11 other states that are working to limit administrative overreach.

Emma Garelick, State Affairs Director at the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), commented: “Kentuckians deserve a government that works for them, not around them. This bill is a major step forward in restoring the balance of power.” She further praised the efforts of Rep. Williams and Sen. Nunn in advancing the legislation, highlighting its impact on ensuring accountability and reducing costs for families.

The Foundation for Government Accountability, a non-profit think tank, has commended the actions taken by Kentucky’s lawmakers, seeing it as a crucial advancement in its policy goals.
