Miami area adds 19,400 jobs in March, trade sector leads growth

FloridaCommerce has released the March 2025 employment data for the Miami area, indicating an increase of 19,400 private sector jobs from the previous year. This accomplishment places Miami as the second-highest among all metro areas for job additions. The trade, transportation, and utilities sector led the way, adding 9,100 jobs.

The Miami area recorded a 2.8% unemployment rate in March 2025, rising from 2.3% in March 2024. Additionally, the area experienced a 1.2% decrease in its labor force, equivalent to 17,277 fewer participants over the year.

The Florida manufacturing industry has marked growth by adding 1,900 jobs in March 2025, maintaining a five-month job-adding streak. Across Florida, the labor force expanded by 62,000, marking a 0.6% increase over the year, totaling nearly 11.2 million.

Statewide, private employment advanced by 113,600 jobs, a 1.3% growth over the year, surpassing the national growth rate of 1.2%. Florida has consistently outpaced the national rate in private sector job growth for 46 of the past 48 months.

The FloridaCommerce Talent Pipeline Portal focuses on connecting job seekers and employers within the aerospace and defense industry.

Current data show around 411,000 job vacancies statewide, encouraging job seekers to use the CareerSource Florida network for support in resume writing, interview preparation, career planning, and personalized training, all at no cost.
