The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) has awarded Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves the 2024 “Governor of the Year” honor. The recognition highlights Governor Reeves’s dedication to economic growth, education reform, and his stance against Medicaid expansion.

According to FGA, Governor Reeves has made significant strides in promoting a policy agenda that emphasizes work over welfare and opportunity over dependency. His leadership is credited with strengthening Mississippi’s economy and making it an attractive place for families and businesses. Efforts under his administration have moved the state closer to eliminating income tax, benefiting residents financially.

In education, Reeves has empowered parents in their children’s educational decisions, contributing to a record-high high school graduation rate in Mississippi. A notable aspect of his tenure is his opposition to expanding Medicaid for able-bodied adults, which he argues preserves resources for those truly in need.

Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA, praised Reeves’s governance style: “Under Governor Tate Reeves’s leadership, Mississippi has become a national model for economic growth, job creation, and effective conservative governance. He is proving that when government steps back, hardworking Mississippians can step forward.”

The “Governor of the Year” award from FGA honors leaders who advance legislation reducing barriers to work while fostering trust in government and promoting self-sufficiency among individuals and families.
