Morgan & Morgan has announced the launch of a new insurance recovery practice aimed at representing businesses in coverage disputes. The announcement was made on the Tampa Bay Business Journal website.

According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, Morgan & Morgan’s national insurance recovery practice will focus on representing businesses in disputes with insurers over bad-faith conduct and denied claims, particularly following hurricanes and catastrophic events. Initially targeting Florida, the practice is expected to expand into other high-volume insurance litigation states. This strategic addition positions Morgan & Morgan to capture a broader share of commercial insurance disputes by leveraging its large-scale litigation infrastructure.

As reported by the ABA Journal, Morgan & Morgan was recently the subject of a federal court inquiry after one of its attorneys submitted a legal brief containing fabricated case citations reportedly generated using ChatGPT. The citations were discovered to reference non-existent precedents, prompting the court to issue an order to show cause regarding potential sanctions. This incident highlighted ongoing concerns about the firm’s oversight in high-volume legal processing and its use of artificial intelligence tools in litigation.

According to Lisa Miller and Associates, Morgan & Morgan reduced its Florida insurance litigation team from more than 30 attorneys to just five after the state eliminated one-way attorney fees in 2022–2023. The firm had previously relied on these fees to profit from high-volume lawsuits that many insurers and lawmakers blame for driving up homeowners insurance costs. The staffing cut reflects how dependent Morgan & Morgan’s business model was on legal provisions that incentivized excessive litigation and responsible for inflating insurance premiums across Florida.

Morgan & Morgan was founded in 1988 by John and Ultima Morgan following a family tragedy in which John’s brother, Tim, was paralyzed in a workplace accident and left inadequately covered by insurance. The firm began with a mission to represent individuals against powerful interests, adopting the tagline “For The People” and expanding over decades from a small Orlando office to a national legal practice. As of 2025, Morgan & Morgan operates with over 1,000 attorneys across 125 offices nationwide, maintaining its identity as a family-led plaintiffs’ law firm committed to accessible legal representation.
