Orlando leads metro areas in job growth for April according to FloridaCommerce

FloridaCommerce has reported that the Orlando metro area experienced the largest increase in private sector jobs among all metro areas in April 2025. The region saw a rise of 25,500 jobs, marking a 1.9% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the area’s labor force grew by 18,539 individuals or 1.2%.

In terms of specific sectors, Orlando led in job growth within leisure and hospitality with an addition of 7,700 jobs; government with 2,800 new positions; other services which added 2,100 jobs; and financial activities with an increase of 1,700 jobs. The unemployment rate for the Orlando area was recorded at 3.3% in April 2025, slightly up from the previous year’s rate of 2.9%.

On a statewide level, Florida’s private sector employment rose by 21,800 jobs from March to April this year. The state’s economy is valued at $1.7 trillion and has been ranked as having the top economy in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for two consecutive years.

Since May 2020, Florida employers have consistently added jobs in most months—57 out of the last 60 months—as per records up to April this year. Statewide private employment increased by approximately 125,700 positions over the past year.

Florida’s job growth continues to outpace national figures across several metrics since April 2021. In particular sectors such as education and health services saw significant gains with an addition of 8,000 jobs last month alone.
