The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) invites the public to attend the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area 10-year Land Management Plan public hearing on Tuesday, July 23. The hearing will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Glades County Commission Chambers, Room 201, 500 Ave J SW, Moore Haven, Florida.

Fisheating Creek WMA covers approximately 18,514 acres in Glades County and serves as a crucial link in the wildlife corridor connecting several other conservation lands. Characterized by bald cypress swamps and hardwood hammocks, Fisheating Creek extends 40 miles through the WMA. The conservation of its floodplain and upland communities is vital for watershed and water quality protection. The wetlands within the area filter water flowing into Lake Okeechobee, making Fisheating Creek the lake’s second-largest tributary. The WMA also offers various recreational activities including hunting, fishing, wildlife watching, nature study, hiking, boating, camping, and horseback riding.

“The Fisheating Creek WMA was purchased to ensure the preservation of fish, wildlife, and other natural and cultural resources for future generations,” said Elizabeth Norregaard, FWC Land Conservation Planner. “This Management Plan will specify how we intend to accomplish that goal.”

A draft of the Management Plan can be obtained by contacting Elizabeth Norregaard at 850-487-9767 or emailing Ann.Norregaard@MyFWC.com. Attendees will have an opportunity to comment on and ask questions regarding the plan. Maps and other information will be available on display.

For more information about this and other upcoming public hearings, visit MyFWC.com/Conservation under “Terrestrial Conservation” and “Management.” Hunting and fishing regulations are not included in this plan or public hearing; they are addressed separately.

Public participation is encouraged without regard to race, national origin, sex, religion, disability or family status. Special accommodations can be requested by notifying the agency at least five calendar days before the meeting by calling 850-488-6411 or using the Florida Relay Service at 800-955-8771 (TDD) or 800-955-8770 (Voice).
