Florida Realtors are highlighting June as National Homeownership Month, emphasizing the role of realtors in promoting housing opportunities and supporting individuals in achieving homeownership. “Every day, Realtors in Florida promote housing opportunities and help people realize the American dream of homeownership,” a spokesperson stated.

Homeownership has long been integral to family planning and future aspirations, providing not only emotional and social benefits but also contributing significantly to household wealth. The Aspen Institute’s Financial Security Program reported that homeowners had an average net worth of $400,000 in 2024, substantially higher than renters who averaged $10,400.

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Florida’s homeownership rate stood at 68.2% during the first quarter of 2025, compared to 69.7% at the same time last year. Nationwide, the homeownership rate was recorded at 65.1% for the same period.

The observance of National Homeownership Month began as a weeklong event in 1995 and was extended to a month-long celebration starting June 2002 under former President George W. Bush’s proclamation.

Throughout June, realtors across Florida are engaging with communities by celebrating Homeownership Month alongside buyers and sellers. They are supported by resources provided by Florida Realtors and additional information available on the National Association of Realtors’ (NAR) Homeownership Month Resources webpage.

Furthermore, assistance regarding homeownership can be accessed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which provides guidance on housing policies, programs, counseling services, and more via their website.
