The Sixth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission announced on May 12 that it is accepting applications to fill two judicial vacancies following the resignation and retirement of Judge Patricia Ann Muscarella and the elevation of Judge Knute J. Nathe. The commission was convened by Governor Ron DeSantis to select and submit names of highly qualified candidates for these positions.
These vacancies include a Circuit Court seat vacated by Judge Muscarella and a Pasco County Court seat vacated due to Judge Nathe’s elevation. The commission is seeking nominations from individuals who meet the eligibility requirements for circuit and county court judges as described in Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. Applicants are reminded that residency requirements apply.
Applications must be submitted electronically no later than noon on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to Petra Justice at [email protected]. Written confirmation will be provided within 24 hours after receipt of each electronic submission. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Applicants are required to use the current application form available on the Governor’s website. Those selected for interviews will receive notification regarding interview dates and times. Interviews are expected to take place in person on June 29, 2026, though this date may change.
A list of members serving on the Sixth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission can be found on Governor DeSantis’ website. Any questions about the process should be directed to Petra Justice, Chair of the commission.
