Govenor DeSantis seeks candidates for two Orange County Court vacancies

The Ninth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission has announced that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has requested the commission to provide names of nominees for two Orange County Court vacancies. Highly qualified candidates have approximately one month to submit an application.

According to a press release published by the Florida Bar, interested candidates must submit an application to Commission Chair Eric Jontz at EJontz@Fishbacklaw.com by noon on June 28, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Under Article V, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution, candidates must be a member of the Florida Bar for the preceding five years. They also must be registered to vote in Florida and be a resident of Orange County at the time of appointment.

The application is available for download at the Office of the Governor website. In addition to the application, candidates must include in the submission a cover page containing a recent photo. The application package also requires current contact information for the applicant, all co-counsel, opposing counsel, and references, which will be used for the background investigation.

Candidates must submit two versions of their applications: the original and a second containing redactions to protect personal information, as allowed under Section 119.071 of the Florida Statutes. Both versions must be submitted as .pdf files. The file names should contain a candidate’s first and last name, followed by REDACTED in the second version.

Interviews for these vacancies will be held on or before July 17, 2024. Candidates will be sent an email highlighting the day and time of the interview. The interview schedule will be published on the governor’s website.
